Self-Talk And The Hypnotic Motivation Formula For Success

Have you ever tried to do away with a negative behavior, only to not succeed? There is list of familiar problem behaviors that people often try to alter or eradicate using self-hypnosis or NLP. The most common are: Overeating and weight loss; stop smoking; quit chewing tobacco; stop nail biting; increasing self-confidence; overcoming insomnia and sleeping better; improving memory; and managing stress.

WHAT THE MIND CAUSES, THE MIND CAN CURE: The motivation for our behaviors starts in our thoughts. If you stop and think about it, all of these unconstructive behaviors are the product of negative thinking. In other words, you think and motivate yourself into all of these behaviors. Or at least you think yourself into feeling tense, and that can trigger these behaviors. And since you think and motivate yourself into these behaviors, you can think and motivate yourself out of them as well. But in order to successfully think and motivate yourself out of these behaviors, you will need to know the "Motivation Formula For Success."

DESIRE: You’re possibly reading this commentary for the reason that you want the motivation to change something about yourself. And that’s opportune because the first component in the "Motivation Formula For Your Success" is that you must want or desire to change. If you have read this far, at least a little part of you wishes a change.

BELIEF IS REQUIRED FOR MOTIVATION: Before anyone can change a harmful behavior, that person must be motivated to do so. Merely desiring a change is insufficient.

Our motivation comes from what we believe. If we believe that something very important to us will get better or "become enhanced" if we modify our behavior, we will feel motivated. Conversely, if we believe that something very important to us will be in jeopardy if we don’t make a change in our behavior, we will also experience motivation to make a change.

Some straightforward examples of these motivational beliefs would be:

If I lose weight, then I’ll be able to get a date or find someone to love me.

If I kick my smoking habit, then I’ll be healthier.

If I improve my study habits, then I can graduate with honors.

TECHNOLOGIES THAT CAN CREATE THE BELIEFS THAT LEAD TO MOTIVATION: Neuro-Linguistic Programming - which is commonly known as NLP, provides methods that are able to immediately produce the element of belief. You can study more about this by reading the articles "How To Get Motivated To Exercise Using Hypnosis And NLP" and "Motivation Theory - How To Quit Smoking Using NLP And Hypnosis For Motivation." These articles are both available in my free hypnosis research library.

DECISION: The dictionary defines the word "Decision" as making up one’s mind / a verdict or judgment. When you believe an idea that gives you a powerful feeling of motivation to make a change, you will feel bound to make a decision to get rid of a negative behavior. Decision is the key that unlocks the door to taking action.

ACTION: The dictionary definition of the word "Action" is an act or deed / to do or perform. When you take action it means that rather than just thinking about making personal changes, you will actually take steps to bring about your desired changes.

SELF-TALK: One of the reasons that most individuals fail to change or eliminate a negative behavior is because of what they say to themselves. Self-talk is significant because time and again it is part of what caused the negative behavior in the first place.

I’d like you to think about this for a moment: Let’s say that you want to stop smoking. Possibly the first thing that you might say or think to yourself is: "I’m not going to smoke any longer."

It is universal for people to tell themselves what they aren’t going to do. Unfortunately, when we tell ourselves what we aren’t going to do, we are actually compelling ourselves to do it!

SELF-TALK EXERCISE: Say the following to yourself: I can’t see blue. I can’t see polka dots . . . . . . .

I’ll bet your mind showed you the color blue, and then it showed you polka dots. That’s because when we tell ourselves what we aren’t going to do, in order to make sense of it our mind must make an image of us doing what it is that we want to stop doing. And when we see ourselves participating in a behavior, our mind compels us to create that behavior.

SUMMARY: In order to modify a negative behavior, we must first want or DESIRE to eliminate it. BELIEF is the ingredient that creates MOTIVATION. MOTIVATION is the drive that leads us to DECISION. DECISION is the impetus to ACTION. NLP is a technology that we can use to facilitate beliefs, motivation, decisions, and actions.

When we tell ourselves what we aren’t going to do, we make a mental image of ourselves using the behavior that we want to eliminate. And that mental picture gives us a compulsion to create the unwanted behavior. So if we want to get rid of a negative behavior, rather than tell ourselves what we won’t do, we must always tell ourselves what we will do.

To break the smoking habit (http://www.neuro-vision.us/Products/AudioQuitSmokingHypnosisTape.htm) say: "I can live without them."

To abolish cravings for high calorie foods or to give up smokeless (http://www.neuro-vision.us/Products/Quit-Smokeless-Tobacco-Hypnosis-CDs.htm) say: "I can live without it."

To reduce stress say: "I’m relaxed and calm, both mentally and physically."

To fall asleep quickly and overcome insomnia say: "I fall asleep promptly, and sleep soundly throughout the entire night."

Cure Social Phobia with Self-Hypnosis

Get Away From The Grip Of A Social Phobia Using Self-hypnosis

Social phobia is one of the most common anxiety disorders in which a person is scared of being in certain social settings. A person with social phobia suffers from incapacitating anxiety that affects their personal and daily life.

People with social phobia are very self-conscious and concerned about what others may think or say about them. They are typically afraid of speaking up, out of fear that they will be criticized or judged. Those with social phobia tend to be down on themselves or suffer from feelings of low self-worth. They are worried about being noticed by other people and find socializing to be very terrifying.

A person with social phobia may seem "shy," but in the case of a phobia, this is taken to extremes. For example, if you suffer from social phobia, you might hesitate to make a crucial phone call because you are anxious about talking on the telephone. You dial the number, but you are so anxious that you "freeze up" or forget why you called. Although it happens to everyone once in awhile, for someone with social phobia it may occur every time, to the point where they find it near impossible to make any calls.

xx

Perhaps it is the night before an important presentation at work and you find yourself panicking. You hate the thought of being in front of your supervisor and all your colleagues watching as you discuss a new idea or project. You can’t stop yourself from feeling very embarrassed and self-conscious. Even after the meeting, you continue overanalyzing everything you said and did. You worry that you humiliated yourself in front of your co-workers by stammering or saying something wrong.

Perhaps you would like to go to parties and meet new people, but you avoid social gatherings because you are anxious about meeting new people. You find the crowds intimidating and the thought of meeting someone new scares you. You worry about what you’ll say, or that you’ll get rejected. You might end up staying at home very often because you are too scared to go out. These are only some examples of the way social phobias can affect our lives.

Social phobias are irrational fears that can stop you from achieving your career goals or fully enjoying life. But even those who know their fears are irrational may not know how to handle their fears. People with social anxiety disorder would love to be more social and meet new people, but are too scared to try. Despite their conscious desires and efforts, they cannot completely control their phobia because every phobia is rooted at the unconscious mind. Ericksonian hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques are the most successful phobia treatments because they resolve issues at the unconscious level.

It can be hard for sufferers of social phobia to get cured because they can be reluctant to see a counselor or talk about their condition. This is why hypnosis programs work well for them. The programs foster a peaceful and confidence-boosting mind frame in a privacy, without being overwhelming or intimidating.

The first part of a phobia program is relaxation therapy. hypnosis therapy is a powerful tool for eliminating your stress and tension. At the moment when you are completely relaxed, hypnotherapy techniques will form positive thoughts in your unconscious mind and eliminate your social phobia. NLP techniques will eliminate your fears by targeting the thought process that causes a phobia.

In conventional hypnosis, specially worded post-hypnotic suggestions are used to treat every different phobia. Unfortunately, people have a tendency to resist being directly told what to think or do, so conventional hypnosis is not always effective. A deeply rooted phobia requires the use of Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and NLP.

Ericksonian hypnosis techniques are more effective than conventional hypnosis because they utilize suggestions that are not obvious to your conscious mind, instead of direct suggestions. These ideas are hidden in conversation, in various stories and metaphors, to persuade your unconscious mind to adopt a different line of reasoning. For this reason, Ericksonian hypnosis is much more refined than traditional hypnotherapy and far harder for the unconscious mind to reject.

A single program that utilizes Ericksonian hypnotic therapy and NLP techniques can treat social phobia and any other phobia, in any individual. This is because several techniques are used together to increase their effectiveness. People are frequently amazed at the almost miraculous results they see using hypnosis. Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP are great tools to help build your confidence and beat social anxiety so you will be able to live your life to the fullest.

How to use Self Change Hypnosis Therapy.

Why Self Change Hypnosis Therapy May Be For You

Perhaps you want to change a specific part of yourself that might be due to low confidence or negative areas from within your inner-self. The practise of change-self hypnosis will most certainly offer you a greater opportunity to promote feelings of higher self esteem and more positivity to your life.

Instead of only offering a more cost effective variable in hypnosis therapy, change-self hypnosis may pounce on whatever might be the ‘base’ of all resentments that may seem harmful and both depressing that keep with us. These experiences are kept subliminally from where reasoning has no input and subsequently meaning we cannot effectively control it in the conscious form. Because of this, any memories at this stage are thought to be able to trigger particular actions and nearly always taking us with the element of surprise.

Because of self-change hypnosis, the subliminal condition at this level cannot be altered. Prior to resorting to this kind of therapy however, to bring an array of light to your ‘lifes baggage’ there are some essential pointers that you simply must know so as to get the best out of this exercise.

Defining The Variables

As already explained, the main feature of the change-self hypnosis is the fact that this can be administered by your own self. Simply, you do not need the services of the hypnotherapist in trying to enter your mind and changing the state of your consciousness.

If we look further in to this here we can determine that this vital variable points to another vital condition of this type of hypnosis: every technique is unique for individuals undergoing change-self hypnosis. This is mainly due to the fact that our subconscious does not have a template from which we can all base our approach. Since each of us have distinctive experiences, it could be foolish to assume that the method of hypnosis that worked for me could be effective to another person as well. So it is critical that people who opt for change-self hypnosis allot a considerable amount of time in learning the craft so they can discover the best way to change their perceptions.

Hypnosis Is Physical And Emotional

This seems to be an area that is not always fully explained. The consequences of change-self hypnosis are not just restricted to emotional hardships. More to the point, these internal difficulties also translate to physical pain. Hence, hypnosis is also beneficial in relieving ailments that can be traced from negative energies that may be playing around someone s well-being. But if we consider this further it can be said that physical ailments can also widen its reach to the psychological aspect of a patient, and change-self hypnosis is still a good approach to take in healing this damaged state.

For instance, this exercise has been employed by women with child to alleviate the pain of childbirth. Pain management is one of the overlooked features of change-self hypnosis, and could be a good alternative to medications that are commonly used to ease pain.

I hope this article has helped you to somewhat understand a little bit more about the fundamental principals of self-change hypnosis and how this practise may be implemented into ones lifestyle.

Self Hypnosis, how to induce it

How To Perform Self Hypnosis

This is a reference for anyone who wishes to try self hypnosis.

It is important to prepare yourself for self hypnosis by having a goal in mind. Form a statement that sums-up your goal and make it into an affirmation. Use the first person and make the statement express your goal as though it were already a fact. "I am slim" or "I am my ideal weight", are two good examples.

Find a comfortable place to relax. A chair, couch or bed will do. Ensure you will not be disturbed while you perform your self hypnosis. Remain still and start to breathe deeply. Breathe in for 5 seconds and out for 5 seconds.

Now allow your eyes to close as you continue to breathe. Allow your thoughts to go where they want. Just observe them. It is time to relax your body. Begin at your toes and tense the muscles for a few seconds. Release the tension. Move up to your calves tensing and relaxing as before. Continue to perform this self hypnosis relaxation with very body group. Do not forget the muscles in your face.

Once you have completed your self hypnosis relaxation exercises imagine you are on the first step of a winding staircase. Below you are a further 10 steps. As you mentally take each step down count backwards from 10 to 1. After each count internally say the words "down, down, down". So your self hypnosis script would go: "10. Down, down, down", "9. Down, down, down.", etc.

At the bottom of the stairs you find a door leading out of the darkness. This door leads you to a tranquil place that puts you at ease and makes you feel even more relaxed.

Locate a comfortable place in your tranquil place. Mentally recite your affirmation with feeling. Because you are in a state of self hypnosis, or trance, this affirmation will seep into your subconscious mind where it will become a command to be followed.

If you wish you can also form a mental picture that represents your affirmation. Visualize yourself in a situation where your affirmation is already true. Evoke positive emotions and enjoy the experience. It will feel like you are deeply relaxed and very like a day dream. Just go with it. Self hypnosis is very misunderstood and many people think they are not hypnotized when they are.

After about 15 minutes you should leave the self hypnosis state. To do this simply count from 1 to 10 and start to become more aware of your physical surroundings.

That’s it, you’re done.

It can often be advantageous to use pre-made self hypnosis recordings. Many of these self hypnosis cds are created by professionals and use cutting-edge sound technologies to produce deeper levels of self hypnosis.

So if you find that you are not satisfied with your own attempts at self hypnosis just use a good quality self hypnosis product. This will help you better understand what the self hypnosis state feels like so you can attempt your own session again in the future.

Self Hypnosis and how it can affect your memory

Learn To Improve Memory By Self Hypnosis

When you think of hypnosis, you probably think of a stage act where the hypnotist makes willing participants cluck like a chicken or shiver when he tells them it’s getting cold in the room. However, did you know that you can improve your life by engaging in self hypnosis? That’s right.
Self hypnosis can help you overcome any blocks you may have mentally that are not allowing you to remember things the way you should. Of course you’ll need to learn how to use hypnosis on yourself. Once you have learned how to do it, you can work on things, such as working to improve memory by self hypnosis.
Start Out By Relaxing
The first thing that you need to do if you want to improve memory by self hypnosis is to relax. Do this by closing your eyes and allowing your entire body to relax. Take some deep breaths and slowly breathe and relax until you feel the rhythm of your heart slowing. For those who have a hard time getting relaxed, using the imagination to imagine telling each part of your body to relax may help. After you have become nice and relaxed, then count backwards, starting at ten.
Imagine you are on a staircase and each time you count a number, imagine you are walking down that staircase. Once you hit the bottom, you should be in a deep enough trance to begin working on improving your memory with self hypnosis.
Give Yourself Some Commands
You can improve your memory by self hypnosis by merely repeating to yourself, once you are in a completely relaxed and hypnotic state, that you want to improve your memory. Whenever you hear anything, or read anything, you will have no problem retrieving that information when you need to.
When you engage in self hypnosis and you begin speaking to yourself, you are speaking to your subconscious. This is how hypnotists get you to do things you normally wouldn’t do; by speaking to your subconscious mind. This gets your ego out of the way so that the instructions you give to yourself aren’t interrupted or blocked. You can also tell yourself that all mental blocks you have that are keeping you from remembering things will dissolve away.
self-hypnosis can be a great way to improve your memory and can really work. First, though, you have to believe that it works. This is perhaps the most important thing that you can do for yourself when you engage in self-hypnosis.
You can purchase DVDs and CDs that will help you to use self hypnosis in order to improve your memory. Many of them have specific instructions to help you improve memory by self hypnosis and will help you work on relaxation and commanding yourself to improve your memory function. Of course you should again remember that your belief in this is very important if you want it to work for you. As you use self hypnosis over and over, you’ll soon find that you are remembering things better and better.

Using Self-Hypnosis to increase concentration and reduce anxiety

Monday, February 16th, 2009

by Adam Easton

During recent weeks, the city of Sheffield here in England has been hosting the World Snooker Championships.

Have you ever seen a more hypnotic sport? I know that some people would argue that it just sends them to sleep, though it is extremely hypnotic and at times I have found it to be extremely relaxing and exciting and I am amazed at what those professional players can do with the balls.

Snooker players sum up a lot about what I think you need in life to be successful - they have to practice and practice and practice to get to those levels, they have to be focus on what they want to the exclusion of all else at times, they have to learn from their mistakes and learn from each other. I know you can get metaphors to the same effect from most sports, it is just that this week I was inspired by one particular young man.

The hero of this years tournament, for me, was the losing finalist - a 23 year old man by the name of Mark Selby. They call him ‘The Jester from Leicester.’ Not only was he wonderfully exciting to watch play snooker… He actually smiles during games!! He has fun, he makes jokes, he entertains, he has a look about him that is extremely endearing and I really warmed to him despite this year being the first time he had broken into the top flight in the Snooker World championships. Mark Selby seemed to really enjoy what he was doing and I find that so inspiring.

What really amazed me was this guy’s stamina too.

First of all, because he was not in the world top 16 rankings prior to this tournament, he did not get an automatic place in the tournament, so he had to qualify with several matches. In the first round, he came from 5-0 down, to win 10-7. In the second round he beat former world champion Peter Ebdon, having trailed 6-2, he won 13-8. In the quarter finals he won 13-12 in a last frame decider. Then in the semi final, he beat another former world champion Shaun Murphy in a gruelling match, having trailed for much of it, 17-16!! A last frame decider again. Each of these games were hours long and the individual frames were often going on for very long times. The final, which he lost to John Higgins 18-13 went on until the early hours of the morning!

Wow. To maintain that level of mental endurance and concentration for such intense, pressurised lengthy periods of time is just incredible.

I get asked very frequently about how we can increase our powers of focus and concentration and so this week I thought I would a simple self-hypnosis technique with you to help you do just that. This technique today can also be used for all manner of things including stress reduction,

Here is a simple technique to help you keep focused for longer periods of time.

Step One: Be in a place where you are not going to be disturbed for a while. Get yourself comfortable, with your arms and legs uncrossed. Then just focus on the moment, notice what thoughts you are thinking, notice the sensation of stillness and the rhythm of your body and just be an observer of your experience for a few moments. Just observe yourself existing in that moment, without interfering with it at all. Then take a slightly deeper breath and exhale slowly while closing your eyes.

Imagine that you can feel gravity pulling you to whatever it is you are resting on. Feel your body being supported. Tune in to the moment and feel how it feels to just relax and observe how and who you are at this moment.

Step Two: Now bring your awareness in and concentrate on your breathing. Notice the parts of your body that move as you breathe in and out. Notice the wonder of your breath, be aware of the temperature of it - maybe it feels cooler when you breathe in and warmer as your breathe out.

Imagine that each breath is going deeper. That does not have to be a bigger or a larger breath, just a breath that relaxes you while you are keeping your awareness on it. Be sure at this stage to just let your breath happen without you interfering with it. Keep doing this for a little while as you notice your body relaxing around you and your mind slowing down, yet keeping your awareness on your breath - if your mind wanders, then just keep bringing it back.

Step Three: As you feel more relaxed, noticing the rhythm of your breathing, maybe it slows down slightly. Allow your breath now to move to other parts of your body. Imagine breathing in to muscles and parts of your body and releasing them, relaxing them and imagine the muscles softening and the nerves in those muscles just becoming still and quiet. Not having to do anymore than is absolutely necessary.

Step Four: When you are sure that you have sufficiently relaxed your body and are still focusing on your breathing, now move your awareness to your mind. This is where the key to this technique exists.

Using your imagination, imagine that in front of you is a clear glass jar. The jar is clear, it is clean, even shiny and it is well and truly empty. Really imagine details of the jar, the textures, the way light reflects off it, the top and bottom of it, what kind of lid it has - really get a good idea in your mind of how this jar is.

As you have been doing, observe yourself now. While you continue to observe yourself, imagine that unscrew the lid of the jar and remove it for now.

Look closely at this empty jar, become aware that it is waiting to be filled. Imagine it inviting you to put something inside. So this is your chance to let go of any burdens, any distractions, any unwanted thoughts and aspects of routines from your day. Whether they were generated by your activities, your work, any tasks you are wanting to perform, any errands, your travels, your apprehensions, any anxieties, your cares, any discomfort you may be experiencing or any other thing.

Observe carefully now as one by one you place them into the jar. Imagine that your mind pours it all from inside of you and places it into that jar. Continue now to fill the jar with any remaining distractions, burdens or unwanted thoughts or feelings.

You can have fun here and be creative. Maybe you can imagine a string of things pouring out from you, or a cloud with all these things inside, all travelling into the jar. Empty it all out in to the jar.

Step Five: Carefully and deliberately now, replace the lid on the jar. Give the lid one extra turn.

Breathe deeply now and observe that you stand and begin to carry the jar toward a door. Open the door. Outside, on the front step is a large shiny aluminum trash can. Open its lid now and place your jar inside,… Know that you may dispose of it now and forever.., or return for it at another time, if you wish…. Put the lid back on the trash can… turn from it… walk back through the door. Lock the door and return to your chair.

Affirm with yourself something along the lines of "I have true clarity of thought and supreme concentration and nothing can interfere with it until I have achieved ___________" Or something along those lines, using language that appeals to you and resonates with you of course.

Imagine that you have a focused vision, a level of concentration and focus now that is going to serve you really well with whatever you want to begin focusing on now. Feel it, experience it, imagine brimming over with this track of your mind and imagine generating a state of being within yourself… feel prepared to really be this way.

Step 6: Bring your awareness once again to your breathing and notice its rhythm, pace and depth. Tune in to the moment that you are in once again.

Become aware of your toes and fingers, give them a wiggle or two and then open your eyes.

Hold your body in the way you would when you are focused. Hold your thoughts in a way that says "I am focused" and go about your day or the upcoming task or whatever it may be in a truly focused fashion. Spend some time getting yourself really focused and engaged in something that you wish to achieve and notice how much more you excel!
