confidence Do you want to reprogram your subconscious mind for unstoppable confidence? Do you want a magnetic personality that others find irresistibly attractive? What would it be like to overcome the hesitation and self talk that keeps you from realizing your full potential?

Everyone can benefit from increased levels of self confidence and self esteem. In fact, wouldn’t life be interesting if you were so confident, so self-assured, and so completely happy with yourself that other people are naturally drawn to you as a person.

Having a Magnetic Personality

This is what is known as having a “magnetic personality.” You can probably remember a time in your life when you had the fortunate experience of meeting someone with a unique and interesting charisma, a “magnetic personality” that is naturally attractive to others.
You can develop that same charisma and charm for yourself! Now is the time to supercharge your self confidence, overcome your negative self talk, and tap into that sensual, passionate side of you that has a zest for life. What would it be like to “get out of your head” and instantly connect with everyone around you at a very deep level.

Our Subconscious Beliefs Create Our Reality

Imagine finding yourself motivated toward your goals because you found them exciting… because you truly believe that you deserve success. OUR SUBCONSCIOUS BELIEFS CREATE OUR REALITY We are what the programming in our subconscious mind perceives us to be.
If there is a belief there that you are “shy”, then you will automatically manifest behaviors in your life that are congruent with that belief. If a person has a belief that they don’t deserve success, then they lack the motivation to pursue their goals successfully.
You are manifesting your reality right now by acting out your own subconscious beliefs! The seeds for much of our “negative” programming were planted in our minds at a very young age. Your subconscious mind is very powerful…it works twenty four hours a day turning your inner beliefs into a reality…good or bad!
This CD includes

ball81 The newest techniques in hypnosis performance, combining up-to-date hypnosis inductions and the latest in NLP.

ball81 Digitally mastered sound.

ball81 Inducing music and trance deepening sounds intertwined with hypnosis.

ball81 A pre-talk that explains what hypnosis is, how hypnosis works and the common unknown facts of hypnosis.

ball81 A running time of 45-55 minutes in length.

ball81 A complete and full hypnosis session.

Hypnotherapy to bring out the musician in you

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Perhaps you are interested in using hypnosis to help you achieve the goals you have set for yourself, or perhaps you are just curious and interested to learn more. If you are thinking of trying some of the many hypnosis products that are out there but find yourself being sceptical, or even nervous, about what happens in hypnosis then read on.

hypnotrance image

Firstly What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of mind we have all experienced before. It is a naturally occurring state between wakefullness and sleep. Scientists will tell you that your brainwave pattern will be in the Theta-band (as opposed to Beta, which is wide awake, and Delta which is asleep), but as far as you are concerned it is best described as being in a daydream, or ‘trance’ if you like. There are lots of examples of everyday trances - here are a few:

When you day-dream you are in a light trance - you’ll remember that detached feeling you had at school when you gazed out of the window in a really boring Geography lesson.

When your eyes are fixed on the flames in a log fire after a long day. You wont even feel like blinking.

When you are ‘glazing over’ during a conversation with someone really boring and then having to appologise: ‘Sorry, I was miles away. What was that you were saying?’ You are ‘there-but-not-there’.

In each of the above examples you will be momentarilly focussed on one thing - it might be the shape of a cloud in the sky, the flickering flames, or the mole on the guy’s chin - for a few moments your mind filters everything else out, except this one thing, whatever it may be. This filtering phenomena is the key to understanding trance and we will learn more about it later.

Imagine you are at the movies. The film is fantastic, its exciting, exhillerating, emotional, terrifying… Why? It’s only a projection on a screen. The more focussed on the film you are, the more the fact that it is a projection on a cinema screen is kept at an unconscious level. Pretty soon you become so caught up in the story that you are ‘entranced’ by the film. All the emotional content of the film is going straight to your unconscious mind without being vetted by your conscious mind. You believe it, you laugh and you cry. Lots of things will be kept at the unconscious level. The smell of stale pop corn will still be there, but that filter mechanism will decide not to trouble your conscious mind with such a trivial bit of sensory information.

And it doesn’t stop there. For the duration of the film all those niggling worries about money, relationships or work will be kept at bay - and what a relief it is! Some people call it ‘escapism’ - I call it trance. If its a good enough film you will even filter out pain or discomfort - that’s analgesia. I expect in the really exciting bits of a film you have had your hand freeze half way between the bag and your mouth, this is ‘catelepsy’. These are both scientifically recognised states found in profound hypnosis - and here we are experiencing them in the cinema on a Saturday night!

Trance really is an everyday occurrance - and one we can use to great benefit.

So, you are in the cinema watching the film and you are totally absorbed. Your brain is still moitoring your surroundings, but it is not sending this information to your conscious mind. Your unconscious mind, however, is still aknowledging everything. If the smell of pop corn was to change to the smell of burning, your unconscious would sense the possible emergency and break you out of your trance. Your unconscious mind is your guardian angel - it keeps a constant vigil, day and night, protecting you from danger and keeping you safe. Many people can sleep through violent thunder storms because the unconscious mind knows that, although noisy, it is not a threat. Therefore it choses not to send the information to your conscious mind and wake you up!

It is this filtering process in the brain which is the key to understanding Hypnosis. Using the guidance of a skillful hypnotherapist, or the voice on a CD, you can deepen this daydream state.

So the next question is:

How is this trance state useful?

When you are in trance you can comunicate with your unconscious mind. And why would I want to do that, I hear you ask. Well, firstly lets really define what the unconscious (or as some people would call it: ’subconscious’) mind actually is:

You have probably heard statements like: we only use 5 percent of our brains. Well, if that were the case why is it the size that it is? Obviously the rest of the brain is still being used for something. It might be safer to say that our conscious mind only uses 5 % of our brain. Perhaps our unconscious mind uses the other 95%.

Now, think of all the things you never think about: Breathing, pulse rate, sweating, growing, healing, digesting, blinking, even waking up in the morning. The subconscious mind looks after all of this for you, and loads more. There are millions of things right now that you might not be conscious of until I mention them: like the feeling of the back of the chair on your shoulders, the sound of the fan in your computer, the memory of your first bicycle… As I mentioned them to you your brain’s filter diverted the information to your consciousness. Your brain monitors the sum total of everything that you are experiencing and only sends the important, relevant information to you, your conscious mind. The conscious mind can handle about seven bits of information at a time; the unconscious mind handles millions of bits of information every second. Here are some examples:

Imagine you are in a crowded room where everyone is chatting away creating a hubbub of noise. If someone in the room starts taking about you and mentions your name, your filter will pick that out of the noise and alert you to it.

You are scanning through a broadsheet newspaper and suddenly you just know that you saw the name ‘Britney’ somewhere on the page. ‘I saw it there somewhere… I just know I did…’ You then have to spend ten minutes trying to find it. Your unconscious takes in the whole page usong your periferal vision and will filter out the relevant bits and send the information to your conscious mind. Your brain is, at this very moment taking in a staggering amount of information. If you were aware of all of it, with no filter in place, it would be like trying to listen to a thousand different radio stations at once! Thank goodness we only use 5% of our brains!

Your subconscious also stores your emotions. And I’m sure you already know how difficult it can be to over-ride emotions. The subconscious always wins. Walk across a plank spanning 2 tall buildings and your emotions will very quickly present themselves to you, even though your conscious mind knows you are perfectly capable of walking in a straight line. Similarly, if you have been nervous for an audition or performance before, you probably subconsciously believe that you will be again next time. This we can change using hypnosis. Wouldn’t it be fantastic to go into any performance situation feeling confident and in control? And so long as you prepare properly there is no reason why you shouldn’t. We just need to over-write some self-limiting beliefs with some empowering new ones. And this is when we do it - when we are in trance.

If the brain’s filter mechanism focusses on just one thing (could be your breathing, or a sensation, or a thought, all the other sensory information that is being monitored by your brain is not being forwarded to your consciousness - including the suggestions given to you in hypnosis. Your brain, amazing bit of kit that it is, still ‘hears’ the words - it just does not see the point of alerting your conscious mind to them. It hears the suggestions, thinks ‘Hmmm, I like the sound of that’, and accommodates it into your new beliefs and habits.

Now you would be forgiven for thinking that that you could go around hypnotizing people to give you all their money, or get them to tell their boss that he is an Orang-Utang, but fortunately the unconscious mind has another function: it is your very own guardian angel. It will under no circumstances accept any sugestions that are potentially harmful or against your code of ethics. It’s such a shame that Hollywood has misunderstood hypnosis and portrayed it so woefully in-accurately. You cant be brainwashed, you cant get stuck in trance forever and you will not quack like a duck unless that is something that you really want to do.

What happens in a hypnosis session:

1) The induction. This talks you down into a deeply relaxed state. When the body relaxes, so too does the mind. You experience a tranquil peacefulness - your mind balanced between being awake and asleep, but still 100% aware. You’ll perhaps know that your nose itches, but you cant be bothered to move your hand to scratch it. Just 2 or 3 minutes in this trance state can be as refreshing as a two hour nap!

2) Next the suggestions go in. ‘I feel confident’, ‘I exude a powerful stage presence’ and so on and so forth. When using comercial hypnosis CDs and tapes, there are often multiple suggestions coming from both sides of the stereo image. The conscious mind will only be able to track one or two sentenses at a time, leaving the third to slip through to the unconscious ‘under the radar’ so to speak. With some CDs ’subliminal’ suggestions are recorded very faintly in the background - you cannot hear them ‘consciously’ but many believe that the unconscious mind will pick them up and act upon them. I personally believe that there has to be some evidence that these subliminal suggestions are actually there. You do not need to catch every syllable of a sentence to understand its meaning and if a CD has faint voices burried in the mix, I believe that the unconscious is accute enough to home in on these suggestions and act upon them.

3) Finally the Wake-up. Since you are not asleep ‘wake-up’ is completely the wrong term. I prefer ‘outro’ (the opposite of ‘intro’) myself. Here there are often extra suggestions to the effect that you’ll find it even easier to go into trance the next time, or that you’ll be able to go deeper. Then there will be some kind of command to return to the normal waking state. This is often a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. If you find you really drift off very deeply during the hypnosis session you might only hear the last couple of numbers. This is a good indication of a deep trance. If you were very tired when you started the session you might actually drift off to sleep. The suggestions wont be as effective, so try chosing a less comfortable chair and time your session when you have more energy. In fact, if you suffer from insomnia just leave the outro off the play list!

As well as suggestions, you can also use guided visualisations during trance. This is phenominally effective. Sports men and women have been using this technique for years, but we can all do it. The Cosmetic Surgeon and Psychologist Maxwell Maltz was the first to understand that the brain cannot tell the difference between a real action and a vividly imagined action. Think about that for a moment. Your intelectual, rational conscious mind knows the difference, but your unconscious mind doesn’t. When you are not conscious, you’re asleep… and when you are asleep you vividly imagine things, dont you? Yes you do, it’s called dreaming! And dont dreams feel one hundred percent real at the time? I call it real-virtual-reality! It’s true: the brain cannot tell the difference between a real action and a vividly imagined action.

So, if we vividly imagine feeling alert, enthusiastic and confident as we play a few dozen times, then when we perform for real - the brain thinks, ‘OK, here we go again, I’ve experienced this before’, and you’ll find yourself feeling alert, enthusiastic and confident - just like you imagined. The only rules are that you have to make the visualisation as real as you possibly can, and as often as you possibly can.

Sadly we have all been the victim of negative visualisation! In a recording session 20 seconds before the end of the take, the musician might screw up because he had ’seen him/herself’ screwing up. They get more and more tense as the take rolls on all the time thinking ‘I bet you I miss that twiddly bit in the coda’. Sure enough, they do. Negative visualisation is just as effective as positive visualisation. Using hypnosis we can turn that around.

But where did we learn to be so down on ourselves? Humans only have two innate fears: sudden loud noises and the fear of falling. All other fears are learnt, which implies that someone taught us or that we have taught ourselves. Perhaps your teacher at school was a bad comunicator and you did not achieve very much - you might then be of the opinion that you were not very talented. Often when we were children our teachers only told us what to learn and not how to learn. With the right learning strategy we might have achieved much much more, instead we have mentally rubber-stamped ‘mathmatics’, for instance, as being difficult. Stage-fright has to be learnt. As youngsters if we are not prepared for performing infront of an audience, we are like a rabit in the headlights - petrified. A one-off negative emotion like this can be enough to trigger the same reaction every time you perform. The situation triggers the memory, and it does not seem to matter how deeply the memory might be burried in your unconscious, you might not remember the experience consciously at all, the reaction is the same - racing pulse, knotted stomach, sweatty hands - all classic fight or flight responses, all inappropriate, and all preventing us from playing at our best. Imagine having the stage presence of Mick Jagger or the confidence of Buddy Rich, the command of Yasha Heifitz or the focus of John Coltrane. Well why not? You just need to take a few steps toward re-programming your unconscious. It wont replace the need for practise, but often it is not our physical abilities that let us down, it is our mental state. We can all play like gods in our bedroom, but on stage in front of a couple of thousand people it is not so easy!

Hypnosis changes the irrational beliefs we have about ourselves and all of a sudden we break through the bockages that have been there for years. The key is in the imagination and the ability to enter that perfect mental state for learning - ie trance, be it light trance or deep.

Discover Self-Hypnosis

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

I want to offer you a technique, a simple one for you to use to help to open your heart to life, love and all those other things that from time to time we tend to close ourselves off from.

This technique guides you into a deeper awareness of your own heart. Using a range of different applications throughout this technique, the aim is to increase awareness and energy in the heart. The idea is that this increased energy makes us feel secure and safe within ourselves and not needing to close off, hide or protect our heart from life in any way.

Ok, so simple follow these simple steps:

Step One: Get your body in a comfortable position and in a place where you are going to be undisturbed. Take a slightly deeper breath and hold it in for a couple of seconds, then as you let it out, let it nice and slowly and allow your eyes to close at the same time.

The idea in step one is to get your mind and body into a receptive state. Of course, I recommend you go read my book on Self-Hypnosis for the best way to do this. Alternatively, use whatever trance inducing method, relaxation method or mediation technique that you prefer.

Let your body relax, imagine the muscles softening. Engage in the moment - by that I mean that you notice your thoughts, notice what you are seeing in your mind, notice what sounds you are hearing and the various sensations in your body. Keep breathing nice and gently and slowly and allow your body’s natural systems to trigger the relaxation mode within you. Take as much time as you feel is necessary to get yourself really nice and relaxed and in a receptive state of mind.

Step Two: With each breath that you breathe in, imagine that you are breathing directly into the centre of your heart. As unusual as this may sound, imagine that you are breathing into the area right in the middle of your chest. As you breathe in, really connect and tune in to that breath and feel your breath come directly into your heart.

Begin to feedback to yourself. By that, I mean you tell yourself, using your internal dialogue what the first thing is that you are aware of as the breath comes into the heart? Advise yourself of what it is that you actually feel. Let yourself know consciously what you notice as the breath comes into the heart? Just continue to tune into your breath, and as you do become more and more aware of your heart, connect with it.

Step Three: As you breathe in, imagine that you are breathing in a light of your favourite colour, maybe a golden glowing colour or a colour that you feel safe with and that resonates well with you. With each breath that you inhale, experience, sense and imagine that light coming into your chest. Imagine creating a reservoir of this light in your chest area.

With your conscious mind, continue to follow this light in with each breath and feel it come all the way into your heart. Feel, imagine and sense your chest beginning to fill with light. Imagine that the light is just right for you, the right feeling, the right temperature, feeling safe, comfortable and secure in whatever way is best for you. Just spend some time very gently, filling your chest with this wonderful pleasing light.

Trust your unconscious mind here. Imagine and trust that this light has all the healing knowledge and wisdom of your unconscious mind within it. So, as the light comes into your chest there is a sense of a healing touch upon your heart.

As you become more aware of your heart, really tuning in to it, you may also become aware of places in your heart that are protected, closed, or wounded.

While you are breathing in that light, you can allow yourself to become aware of places in the heart that may be closed. We all tend to have places of armoring in and around the heart, places that seem to shy away from the light as it enters. Be aware of any of these places that seem tight and be aware if there are none.

As babies, we came into this life totally open, totally vulnerable, and totally alive. Your body and mind have experienced being open before.

Throughout our lives, for whatever reasons, these innocent trusting hearts of our much younger selves had experiences that maybe taught us to fear or to close down. You might find that you remember some of these experiences that taught your heart to protect itself; that made you in some way feel like the world was not safe for an open heart. If so, just let those thoughts come and go naturally without lingering on them, just let your mind process them without you giving them too much thought.

Step Four: Continue, as we have done throughout this exercise, to breathe into your heart. Breathe in that lovely light. As you breathe in, be aware of some of the armoring, for the heart carries with it the memories of a lifetime.

Let the light continue to illuminate any places of darkness, of tightness, of numbness or anywhere that might be closed. Keep breathing gently.

Whatever you experience or see just let it happen and let it pass without conscious involvement. Now trust yourself and let your own heart now reveal to you some place in your heart where healing is needed. Let your own heart show you this place and know you are available for healing in your heart. Trust the wisdom of your own heart and let it show you this place. As you breathe in, breathe right into this place in your heart.

Step Five: As you continue all the time breathing into your heart with the light, be aware of any ways in which your heart may have given up, any ways in which your heart may have shut down or closed down in order to protect itself. You see, in opening your heart to love, you must open your heart up to all of life, and in doing so you must be willing to take risks. Sometimes you may experience pain and disappointment. This is something that when you choose to accept it and no longer fear it, allows you to experience such liberation and allow you to get so much more from your regular experience of life - without an open heart, the richly rewarding things happening in my life would not be anywhere near as amazing as they are.

You could end this exercise there and proceed to step seven. However, if you really want to take this to another level, follow this additional step.

Step Six: Now in your mind, allow an image to arrive. Place in your mind an imagine of the face of a person who in this lifetime - past or present - has been a great teacher of the heart, maybe a person living or dead from whom you have been able to receive love. See their face now sitting just a few feet in front of you. In your imagination, look up and you see their eyes looking into your eyes and remember what it feels like to be seen by these eyes that loved you in this way. As you breathe in, feel their presence right here with you in the place you are in and remember what it feels like to be in the presence of this person who loved you in this way.

Now begin speaking to them. Speak out from your heart; holding nothing back. Tell them what is in your heart at this very moment; feel their presence there with you and let the words flow out of your heart like a river. Speak to them and say whatever is true and present in your heart at this moment. As you listen now, you can hear their voice. Remember the sound of that voice. They are speaking to you. They have come today to bring an important message… a message that your heart needs to hear. Listen and receive the message and take this message right into your heart.

Now you see that this face is being joined by other faces, one by one, lots of faces of people of this lifetime, past and present, living and dead, who have loved you, who have been a part of the fabric of your heart and your life. They are all joining you now. You see their faces begin to appear one by one.

You may receive these messages and bring them into your heart, and there will be some to whom you may wish to say things from your heart. You speak these words to their faces as they appear.

Imagine that these beings gather in a circle around you. They form a circle of love, a circle of healing, and some of them reach down their hands to touch you and you feel surrounded and held by their love. Then, you could even imagine one or more of these beings begin cradling you, cradling you and rocking you and feel yourself being held, nurtured and reassured.

Step Seven: Finally then, in your imagination, see an image of your own heart at this moment. Feel your heart. Breathe into your heart. Breathe light into your heart. A effective tool for Self-Improvement, Hypnosis.

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Hypnotism %u2013 A Powerful Tool For Self-Improvement by Tn Briggs Ph.D.

Hypnotism refers to a technique in which one person gives suggestions to another. The suggestions are designed to affect the behavior of the latter. The person delivering the suggestions is called a hypnotist and the receiver is called the subject. The suggestions are usually positive since it has been determined that subjects do not accept suggestions that are contrary to their beliefs. The term self-hypnosis is used if the same person is both hypnotist and subject.

It is well known that the human mind is susceptible to suggestions and will act on them long after they were made. Advertisers spend large sums to suggest to readers and viewers that they should purchase their products. Their success is proof that the mind does respond to suggestions.

A hypnotist draws on this tendency to "respond to suggestions" to achieve both mental and physical self-improvement in a subject. The technique has been used for centuries in many cultures. The "medicine men" of primitive tribes still use the power of suggestion today.

In modern times, hypnotists improve the responses of subjects by first placing them in a relaxed state of mind. Studies have shown that the active brain generates electrical impulses at a frequency of fourteen to thirty-two cycles per second. This has been described as the "Beta" state. When relaxed, the frequency of the impulses drops to seven to fourteen cycles per second. This is called the "Alpha" state. There are also Theta and Delta states. The Theta state, four to seven cycles per second, is associated with drowsiness. The Delta state, three to five cycles per second occurs during sleep.

We have seen that advertisers have success in giving suggestions to subjects in the Beta state. Could hypnotists have even greater success with subjects in the more relaxed states? The answer should be obvious. However, there is no consensus on the optimum frequency for self-improvement suggestions. It is likely that the optimum range may include the lower frequencies of the Alpha state and upper frequencies of the Theta state.

Within this range there are three subdivisions. The first is labeled ‘Simple’. Here, the subject only responds to simple suggestions, is conscious and remembers everything after the session. The next subdivision is labeled ‘Intermediate’. The subject responds to more complicated suggestions but is still conscious and remembers everything after the session. Finally, there is the ‘Complete’ subdivision. The subject is totally unaware of what transpires and remembers nothing upon awakening. Results will be achieved in any of these stages. This is, perhaps, contrary to common belief that only subjects in the "complete" stage realize benefits.

Many people only associate the term ‘hypnosis’ with the complete stage. They believe that only subjects in this stage can realize the benefits of the technique. This is not correct. Subjects in any of the three stages will achieve results. This is important information for those who practice or intend to practice self-hypnotism.

Hypnosis can be used for a wide variety of beneficial purposes. We are listing several here. There are several health related applications that have not been listed. This is because there is a real danger in treating symptoms rather than the real problem We recommend that these applications be handled by members of the medical profession. How to improve the Power of Hypnosis.

How to Increase the Working Power of Hypnosis
 by: Steve G. Jones 7eb

Any hypnotherapist who is professionally trained and accredited will inform a new patient that not everyone responds to hypnosis’ power of suggestion. The truth is that some people are much more able to benefit from hypnosis than others. Some are more resistant to the idea of being completely relaxed and cannot seem to allow messages to penetrate their subconscious. Others, actually the majority of people, are open to the thought changing process of hypnosis and can benefit from its healing abilities.

In order to increase the likelihood that hypnosis will work for you, there are steps you can take to prepare yourself. It helps if you also understand that in order to be hypnotized you must be a willing participant. No one can be placed under the effects of hypnosis without wanting to be. Take these steps to increase your willingness and the effectiveness of hypnosis.

1. Make the decision. You need to decide consciously that you will give hypnosis a try. If for example, you have tried to lose weight through fad dieting or even more proven methods, but still haven’t succeeded, then you need to accept the idea that millions of people have been able to lose weight using hypnosis, and that means you can too. Having a positive attitude and open mind will also allow you to relax effectively so hypnosis can work.

2. Find a therapist you trust. Hypnosis requires a completely relaxed mental and physical state to work. You need to do some research into the credentials of the hypnotherapist in whom you are placing your trust. You can ask for references and call those clients to be sure they had a positive experience. If you are using self-hypnosis, be sure the person creating the programs is qualified to do so.

3. Continue the process on your own. Hypnotherapy sessions in an office generally run from 30-60 minutes. You can follow up on the therapy through self-hypnosis programs that compliment your objectives. These are meant to be played each night before you go to sleep.

4. Use refresher sessions. Hypnosis can work almost immediately, as in the case of quitting a smoking habit. You may find that with hypnosis you can quit ‘cold turkey.’ However, it is not uncommon to face temptations to light up again, even if you have gone months without a craving. If this happens, revisit your hypnotherapist or restart a self-hypnosis program at home where you replay the therapeutic CD for another week.

5. Keep an open mind. Again, hypnosis is only effective if you are a willing participant. It has the power to break bad habits, motivate you for change, and build confidence. It can even heal illness, boost the immune system and give you the power to succeed.

Hypnosis is most effective when you are frequent, consistent, and confident it can work for you. Make hypnosis a habit by using self-hypnosis programs for at least 21 consecutive nights. Through this process you will develop the skills to relax and allow the message of the hypnotic script to work at modifying behaviors and achieving goals.

Hypnosis %u2013 A Case Of Mind Over Matter

by Barrie St John

The expression mind over matter refers to our mind’s ability to overcome a challenging situation. Giving up smoking, for example, is an ongoing mental battle between wanting a cigarette and equally wanting to resist the craving. The mind has the power to relieve those intense cravings by arming you with the message that you in fact don’t really want a cigarette, and that you’re so much happier without one.

Your intense focus and concentration on those positive thoughts is in itself a degree of hypnosis. You’re utilizing the power of your mind to overcome a challenging situation.

Therein lays the basic principle of self-hypnosis: utilizing the most powerful tool at your disposal, your mind, to help you through challenging situations which you’re unable to overcome through will alone. Whether it be emotional problems, or physical pain of some kind, the power of the unconscious mind can alleviate your conscious awareness of that emotion or pain. But for that to happen, you first need to get in touch with your unconscious mind. That is what self hypnosis can do. It can help you get in touch with your unconscious mind and benefit from its power.

We do it daily. We all learn and benefit from our unconscious mind without being aware of it. We may spend hours so completely focused on a specific thing that we literally don’t recall having a conscious thought throughout that period of time. All this while, our unconscious mind is working for us and we don’t even realize it.

We often step away from a mental debate, which we are unable to resolve no matter how hard we think about it. We choose to ’sleep on it’ and see how we feel about it in the morning. Usually we feel enlightened the next morning, with a new perspective on whatever was causing us such mental turmoil. What that powerful unconscious mind of ours has done is allowed us to connect with our deepest inner feelings about something, and to tap into our emotions on a conscious level, where we can act on it.

So wouldn’t it nice to be able to call upon that power at will, whenever we want to, and fully take advantage of this natural state of self-reliance? Self hypnosis is the way to do that. You’re already doing it. Your unconscious mind is yours to learn from. Choosing to subscribe to self hypnosis is just taking an already powerful tool to the next level, and getting the most benefit you possibly can out if it.

What are the benefits of Hypnosis?

What is Hypnosis? - and what can it do for you?
 by: Michael McGrath 7eb

130d

A typical dictionary definition of hypnosis states that it is: a state that resembles sleep but that is induced by suggestion. However, anyone who has tried hypnosis (and any self respecting hypnotist) will tell you that this is a very simplistic view of the subject!

A much better description comes from the Free Online Dictionary which states that hypnosis is: an artificially induced state of consciousness, characterised by heightened suggestibility and receptivity to direction. So what does this mean and how can it be used to your advantage?

Well, the subject of hypnosis has been discussed and pondered since the late 1700s. Many explanations and theories have come and gone though science, however, has yet to supply a valid and well-established definition of how it actually happens. It’s fairly unlikely that the scientific community will arrive at a definitive explanation for hypnosis in the near future either, as the untapped resources of our ‘mostly’ uncharted mind still remain something of a mystery.

However, the general characteristics of hypnosis are well documented. It is a trance state characterized by extreme suggestibility, deep relaxation and heightened imaginative functioning. It’s not really like sleep at all, because the subject is alert the whole time. It is most often compared to daydreaming, or the feeling you get when you watch a movie or read a captivating book. You are fully conscious, but you tune out most of the outside world. Your focus is concentrated intensely on the mental processes you are experiencing - if movies didn’t provide such disassociation with everyday life and put a person in a very receptive state then they would not be as popular (nor would TV advertising be as effective!). Have you ever stated that a film wasn’t great because you just couldn’t ‘get into it’???

This works very simply; while daydream or watching a movie, an imaginary world becomes almost real to you because it fully engages your emotional responses. Such mental pursuits will on most occasions cause real emotional responses such as fear, sadness or happiness (have you ever cried at a sad movie, felt excited by a future event not yet taken place or shivered at the thought of your worst fear?).

It is widely accepted that these states are all forms of self-hypnosis. If you take this view you can easily see that you go into and out of mild hypnotic states on a daily basis - when driving home from work, washing the dishes, or even listening to a boring conversation. Although these situations produce a mental state that is very receptive to suggestion the most powerful time for self-change occurs in the trance state brought on by intentional relaxation and focusing exercises. This deep hypnosis is often compared to the relaxed mental state between wakefulness and sleep.

In this mental state, people feel uninhibited and relaxed and they release all worries and doubts that normally occupy their mind. A similar experience occurs while you are daydreaming or watching the TV. You become so involved in the onscreen antics that worries and everyday cares fade away, until all you’re focused on is the TV. In this state, you are also highly suggestible. That is why when a hypnotist tells you do something under trance; you’ll probably embrace the idea completely. However, your sense of safety and morality remain entrenched throughout the experience and should either of these be threatened you immediately wake!

A hypnotist can not get you to do anything you don’t want to do.

So while in such a state, when we are highly suggestible and open to new beliefs, a skillful hypnotist, whether in person or via a recording, can alter life-long behaviours and even give us new ones!
